خرجنا في غزوة مع رسول الله ﷺ، وكان لكل منا تمرة واحدة في اليوم، كان يمصها ثم يلفها في ثيابه، وكنا ننتقي أوراق الشجر بأقواسنا ونأكلها حتى تحمر خدودنا. أقسم أن أحدنا سُلبت منه تمرة سهوًا يومًا، فحملناها إلى الموزع وشهدنا عليه أنه لم يُعطَ تلك التمرة، فلما أُعطيت له قام فأخذها.
We went on an expedition with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Each of us had a daily allowance of one date, which he would suck and then wrap in his clothes. We would pluck leaves from trees with our bows and eat them until our cheeks were sore. I swear that one day one of us was deprived of it by mistake, so we carried it (to the distributor) and bore witness against him that he had not been given that date. When it was given to him, he stood up and took it.
