Sahih Muslim — Hadith #7637

Narrated by Mahmud bin Ghaylān: Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: “Shu’bah said to me: ‘Go to Jarīr bin Hāzim and tell him: “It is not permissible for you to narrate from al-Hasan bin Umārah, for he is lying.”’” Abu Dawud said: “I asked Shu’bah: ‘How do you know?’ He replied: ‘He narrated to us from al-Hakam things that have no basis.’ [Abu Dawud] asked: ‘What things?’ [Shu’bah] replied: ‘I asked al-Hakam: “Did the Prophet ﷺ pray over the martyrs of Uhud?” [Al-Hakam] replied: “He did not pray over them.”’” Al-Hasan bin Umārah said, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn Abbās: “Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ prayed over them and buried them.” I asked al-Hakam: “What do you say about children born out of wedlock?” [Al-Hakam] replied: “Pray over them.” I asked: “From whom is this hadith narrated?” [Al-Hakam] replied: “It is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basrī.”’ Al-Hasan bin Umārah said: ‘Al-Hakam narrated to us, from Yahyā bin al-Jazzār, from Ali.’”
