Hadith #52885
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of you is the one who is pleased with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the best of deeds is the month of fasting." 1. There was disagreement about specifying it up to forty, as it is referred to in the "Fathul-Bari" 2.1 - Sahih. Abu Dawood (1386) is found to the Prophet, and he has evidence of it as it is said in the "original." 2 - See "Fath al-Bari" (4/263-266), he mentions forty-six quotes. Then he said, "The most likely of all of them is that they are in the odds of the last ten, and they have been transferred, and the majority consider them to be the seventh night."
