Sahih Muslim — Hadith #7564
Hadith #7564
Know! May Allah grant you success. Whoever has the ability to distinguish between authentic and weak hadiths and knows the trustworthy and the accused narrators (those who have been accused of lying, etc.), it is obligatory upon him not to narrate except that hadith whose origin is sound and whose narrators are those whose faults have not been exposed, and to avoid the narrations of those who have been accused or who are stubborn among the people of innovation. And the evidence for what we have said is that Allah, the Exalted, said: “O you who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with news, verify it, lest you go against a people in ignorance, then tomorrow regret what you have done.” Secondly, Allah Almighty said: “And call to witness two men or a man and two women of your choice” (for testimony, meaning those who are known to be truthful and good) and He said: “Allah Almighty called to witness two just persons.” So it is clear from these verses that the statement of the transgressor is unreliable, and similarly it is clear from the Hadith Sharif that it is not correct to narrate a narration that is false (which has the possibility of being false), as is clear from the Quran, and that Hadith is the same as the one that is famously narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: “Whoever narrates a Hadith from me and thinks that it is false, then he is a liar.” Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated with his chain of transmission from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: (i.e. the same Hadith that has been narrated above that whoever narrates a Hadith from me and thinks that it is false, then he is a liar).
