Hadith #47972
Ishaq ibn Mansur told us: Abd al-Razzaq told us: Ma'mar told us, on the authority of Thabit, on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, that a man from the desert named Zahir used to send gifts from the desert to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would then provide him with provisions when he wanted to leave. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zahir is our desert man." We were present with him, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, loved him. He was an ugly man. One day, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to him while he was selling his goods and embraced him from behind without him seeing him. He said, “Who is this? Let me go!” He turned around and recognized the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he did everything he could to press his back against the Prophet’s chest when he recognized him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Who will buy this slave?” He said: O Messenger of God, then by God you will find me worthless. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: But with God you are not worthless, or he said: You are precious to God.
