Hadith #51142
On the authority of Ibn Umar, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, stood up, meaning on the day of Badr, and said: “Uthman set out to fulfill the need of God and the need of His Messenger.” And I pledge allegiance to him.” So the Messenger of God struck him with an arrow, and he did not strike anyone with anything that was absent other than him.
