Sunan an-Nasa'i — Hadith #24295

Ziyad bin Ayyub told me, he said Ibn Ulayya told us, he said Ayyub told us, on the authority of Ali bin Hakim, on the authority of Suleiman bin Yasar, on the authority of Rafi’ bin Khadij said: “We used to negotiate with the land during the time of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and we would give it a third, a quarter, and the designated food.” Then he came. One day, a man from my cousin said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, has forbidden me about a matter that was beneficial to us. Obedience to God and His Messenger is more beneficial to us.” He forbade us. To squabble with the land and cultivate it for a third, a quarter, and the specified food, and the Lord of the land is commanded to cultivate it or cultivate it. He hated renting it and anything else. Job did not hear it from on high.
