Sunan an-Nasa'i — Hadith #24315

Hisham bin Ammar told us, he said, Yahya bin Hamza told us, he said, Al-Awza’i told us, he said, Hafs bin Anan told me, on the authority of Nafi’, He told him that Ibn Umar was leasing his land with some of what he took from it, so he heard that Rafi’ ibn Khadij was forbidding that, and he said he forbade it. Messenger God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said about that: “We were covering the earth before we knew Rafi’. Then he found it within himself and put his hand on my shoulders until we were pushed to Rafi’, and Abdullah said to him: Did you hear that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, forbade renting land? Rafi’ said: I heard the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He says, “Do not force the earth with anything.”
