Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45344

Aswad bin Amir told us, Sharik told us, on the authority of Al-Amash, on the authority of Al-Manhal, on the authority of Abbad bin Abdullah Al-Asadi, on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said, when this verse was revealed: “And warn your closest kindred,” he said, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, gathered from the people of His house, and thirty gathered together and ate and drank. He said, “Who will guarantee for me my religion and my promises, and be with me in Paradise, and be my successor in My family, and a man who did not name a partner said, O Messenger of God, you were a sea. Who would do this? He said, then the other said. He said, so he offered that. On his family, and Ali, may God be pleased with him, said, “I am.”
