وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ وَأَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَيَقُومُ ثُلُثَهُ وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ وَيَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا»
On the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “The most beloved prayer to God is the prayer of David, and the most beloved to God is fasting.” The fasting of David: He used to sleep at midnight, wake up for a third of it, and sleep for a sixth of it. He would fast one day and break his fast the other day.
