عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ: مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا: جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ قَالَ: آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَلِكَ؟ قَالُوا: آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا غَيْرُهُ قَالَ: أما إِنِّي لم أستحلفكم تُهْمَة لكم وَمَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ بِمَنْزِلَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقَلَّ عَنْهُ حَدِيثًا مِنِّي وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ: «مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ هَاهُنَا» قَالُوا: جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ وَنَحْمَدُهُ عَلَى مَا هَدَانَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَمَنَّ بِهِ علينا قَالَ: " آالله مَا أجلسكم إِلَّا ذَلِك؟ قَالُوا: آالله مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَلِكَ قَالَ: «أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَة» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم
On the authority of Abu Saeed, he said: Muawiyah went out to a circle in the mosque and said: Why did you sit? They said: We sat remembering God. He said: God has not made you sit except that? They said: By God, we have not seated anyone other than him. He said: As for me, I did not ask you to swear on account of your accusation, and no one was of my status compared to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. He spoke less about him than I did, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, went out to meet a group of his companions and said: “I am not sitting here with you.” They said: We sat remembering God and praising Him for what He has guided us to Islam and for bestowing it upon us. He said: “By God, why did I sit with you except that?” They said: By God, we did not sit down except for that. He said: “As for me, I did not make you swear on account of your accusation, but Gabriel came to me and told me that God Almighty He boasts about you to the angels.” Narrated by Muslim
