On the authority of Anas that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, struck Al-Khamr with a cloth and sandals, and flogged Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, for forty. And in a narration from him: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to strike the wine with sandals and a palm tree forty times.
