وَعَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنْ وُلِّيتَ أَمْرًا فَاتَّقِ اللَّهَ وَاعْدِلْ» . قَالَ: فَمَا زِلْتُ أَظُنُّ أَنِّي مُبْتَلًى بِعَمَلٍ لِقَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم حَتَّى ابْتليت
On the authority of Muawiyah, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “O Muawiyah, if you are appointed to command, fear God and be just.” He said: I still think that I am afflicted with an action according to what the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said until I was afflicted.
