حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ صَالِحٍ، قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ، مِنْ الْأَنْصَارٍ غَيْرُ مُتَّهَمٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رِجَالًا، مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَزِنُوا عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى كَادَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَنْ يُوَسْوِسَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ فَكُنْتُ مِنْهُمْ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَى حَدِيثِ أَبِي الْيَمَانِ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ.
Yaqoub told us, my father told us, on the authority of Salih, he said: Ibn Shihab said: A man from the Ansar who is not accused told me that he heard Uthman ibn Affan narrates that some men from the companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, died when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, died. They were sad for him to the point that some of them were almost whispering. Uthman said, “I was one of them,” so he mentioned the meaning of the hadith of Abu al-Yaman on the authority of Shuaib.
