حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُوحٍ يَعْنِي قُرَادًا، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ الْوَتْرِ، قَالَ فَقَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُوتِرَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ ثَوِّبْ يَا ابْنَ النَّبَّاحِ أَوْ أَذِّنْ أَوْ أَقِمْ‏.‏
Abu Nuh told us, meaning a tick. Shu’bah told us, on the authority of Abu al-Tiyah. I heard Abdullah bin Abi al-Hudhayl, speaking on the authority of a man, from Bani Asad said, “Ali bin Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, came out to us, and they asked him about the Witr prayer.” He said, “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, commanded us.” Peace and blessings of God be upon him, may we pronounce the call to prayer at this hour, O Ibn al-Nabah, or the call to prayer or the iqamah.
