Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45434

Yahya bin Saeed told us, on the authority of Mujalid, Amer told us, he said Sharahah had an absent husband in the Levant, and she became pregnant and he brought her He handed her over to Ali bin Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, and he said, “This woman committed adultery, so she confessed.” He flogged her for a hundred on Thursday and stoned her on the next day. Friday He made a hole for her up to the navel, and I am a witness. Then he said that stoning is a sunnah that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, enacted, even if anyone had witnessed this. The first one to throw the witness would have testified, and then he would have followed his testimony with his stone, but she confirmed it, so I was the first to throw it, so he threw it. Then he threw a stone at the people, while I was among them. He said, “By God, I was among those who killed her.”
