Hadith #49014
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهُ: «أَهَدْيَةٌ أَمْ صَدَقَةٌ؟» فَإِنْ قِيلَ: صَدَقَةٌ: قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: «كُلُوا» وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ وَإِنْ قِيلَ: هَدِيَّةٌ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ فَأَكَلَ مَعَهم
On the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: Whenever the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was brought food, he would ask about it: “Is it a gift or charity?” If it was said: It is charity: He said to his companions: “Eat” and did not eat, and if it was said: It is a gift, he struck it with his hand and ate with them.
