حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ، صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَدْرُوا أَيْنَ يَقْبُرُونَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَنْ يُقْبَرَ نَبِيٌّ إِلَّا حَيْثُ يَمُوتُ فَأَخَّرُوا فِرَاشَهُ وَحَفَرُوا لَهُ تَحْتَ فِرَاشِهِ.
Abd al-Razzaq told us, he said, Ibn Jurayj told me, he said, my father told me that the companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not know where they would be buried. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, until Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. And he said, “No prophet will be graved except where he dies.” So they made his bed and dug a hole for him under his bed.
