Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45058

Abdullah told us, Surayj bin Yunus told me, Ali bin Hashim, meaning Ibn al-Barid, told us, on the authority of Muhammad bin Ubayd Allah bin Abi Rafi’, on the authority of Omar bin Ali bin Hussein, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was the best of his wives. This world and the hereafter, and they were not given the option of divorce. Abdullah told us, he said, and Yahya bin Ayyub told us, Ali bin Hashim bin Al-Barid told us. So he mentioned his example and said, “He gave his wives a choice between this world and the hereafter, and he did not give them the choice of divorce.”
