Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45223

Muhammad ibn Ja`far narrated to us, Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, he said: I heard Najiya ibn Ka’b, narrating on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him, that He came to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and said that Abu Talib had died, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to him, “Go and bury him.” He said, “He died as a polytheist.” He said, “Go and have a bath.” He said, “When I saw him, I returned to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he told me to wash.”
