حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ صَلَّى بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَيْهِ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَقَالَ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَنْهَانَا عَنْهَا‏.‏
Al-Hasan bin Yahya told us, he said, Ibn Al-Mubarak told us, he said, Muammar told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Rabi’ah bin Darraj, that Ali, May God be pleased with him. He prayed two rak’ahs after the afternoon prayer, then Omar, may God be pleased with him, became angry with him and said, “Did you not know that the Messenger of God prayed May God bless him and grant him peace. He used to forbid us from doing so.
