حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ الْخَارِفِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَبَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَلَّى أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَثَلَّثَ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ خَبَطَتْنَا فِتْنَةٌ فَهُوَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ.
Waki` told us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Abu Hashim ibn Kathir, on the authority of Qais al-Kharifi, on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him, who said that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, preceded May God bless him and grant him peace. Abu Bakr and a third of Umar prayed, then a trial struck us, so it is what God willed.
