Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45656

Yahya bin Adam narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Al-Hasan bin Al-Hurr narrated to us, Al-Hakam bin Utaiba narrated to us, on the authority of a man, called Hanash, on the authority of Ali, May God be pleased with him. He said: The sun was eclipsed, so Ali, may God be pleased with him, prayed for the people. He recited Yasin or something similar, then he bowed down for a length of time. He recited the surah, then he raised his head and said, “God hears whoever praises Him.” Then he stood up as the surah prayed and said “Allahu Akbar,” then he bowed down as he recited it as well, then he said, “He heard.” God is for whoever praises Him. Then he stood again for the duration of the surah, then he bowed for the duration of that also until he prayed four rak’ahs, then he said, “He heard.” God is for the one who praises Him, then prostrates, then stands in the second rak’ah and does the same as he did in the first rak’ah, then sits, praying and desiring until it is revealed. The sun then told them that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did that.
