Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #48548

On the authority of Muadh bin Jabal, he said: The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was in the Battle of Tabuk: When the sun had set, before he set out, he would gather at noon. And the afternoon prayer, even if it departs before the sun sets, delay the noon prayer until it descends for the afternoon prayer, and in the Maghrib case the same if it sets. The sun before he sets, he combines sunset and the evening prayer, and if he departs before the sun sets, he delays sunset until he descends for the evening prayer. Then he combines them.
