Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #48724

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “God Almighty will say on the Day of Resurrection: O son of Adam, have you fallen ill? But you did not visit Me. He said: O Lord, how can I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He said: Did you not know that such-and-such servant of Mine was sick and you did not visit him? Did you know that if you had gone back to him, you would have found me with him? O son of Adam, I asked you for food but you did not feed Me. He said: O Lord, how can I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds? He said: Did you not know that such-and-such servant of My servant asked you for food and you did not feed him? Did you not know that had you fed him, you would have found him with Me? O son of Adam I asked you for water but you did not give me water. He said: O Lord, how can I give you water when you are the Lord of the worlds? He will say: So-and-so servant of Mine asked you for a drink and you did not provide for him. If you had given it to him, you would have found him with Me.” Narrated by Muslim.
