Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50350

On the authority of Sahl bin Saad: A woman came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and said: O Messenger of God, I have given myself to you, so she stood up. For a long time, then a man stood up and said: O Messenger of God, marry her to me if you do not have a need for her. He said: Do you have anything to make her believe in charity? He said: What? I only have this garment of mine. He said: “Look, even if it is an iron ring.” He looked and did not find anything. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Do you have anything of the Qur’an?” He said: Yes, Surah such-and-such and Surah such-and-such, and he said: “I married her to what you know of the Qur’an.” And in a narration: He said: “Go, I have married her to you, so teach her from the Qur’an.”
