وَعَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الدَّيْلِمِيِّ قَالَ: إِنَّ عُمَرَ اسْتَشَارَ فِي حَدِّ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ: أَرَى أَنْ تَجْلِدَهُ ثَمَانِينَ جَلْدَةً فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا شَرِبَ سَكِرَ وَإِذَا سَكِرَ هَذَى وَإِذَا هذَى افْتَرى فجلدَ عمرُ رَضِي الله عَنهُ فِي حَدِّ الْخَمْرِ ثَمَانِينَ. رَوَاهُ مَالِكٌ
On the authority of Thawr ibn Zayd al-Dailami, he said: Omar consulted about the punishment for alcohol, and Ali said to him: I think that you should flog him eighty lashes. He drank and became intoxicated, and when he was intoxicated he became delirious, and when he became delirious he fabricated slander, so Omar, may God be pleased with him, was flogged eighty times within the limit of alcohol.
