عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ ابْنُ النَّوَّاحَةِ وَابْنُ أُثَالٍ رَسُولَا مُسَيْلِمَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا: «أَتَشْهَدَانِ أَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ؟» فَقَالَا: نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَلَوْ كُنْتُ قَاتِلًا رَسُولًا لَقَتَلْتُكُمَا» . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: فَمَضَتِ السُّنَّةُ أَنَّ الرَّسول لَا يُقتَلُ. رَوَاهُ أَحْمد
On the authority of Ibn Masoud, he said: Ibn al-Nawahah and Ibn Athāl came as Muslim messengers to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he said to them: “Do you bear witness? Am I the Messenger of God? They said: We bear witness that Musaylimah is the Messenger of God. Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “I believe in God.” And His Messenger, and if I were a killer of a Messenger, I would kill you both.” Abdullah said: The Sunnah stated that the Messenger should not be killed.
