Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #51685

On the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said: A man from the companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, from the Ansar, told me that they were sitting one night with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. May God bless him and grant him peace. A star was shot and it was illuminated. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to them: “What were you saying? In pre-Islamic times, if something like this was thrown at him? They said: God and His Messenger know best. We used to say: A great man was born tonight and a great man died. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “ It is not thrown at it for the death of anyone nor for his life, but rather when our Lord, Blessed be His Name, decrees He commanded that the bearers of the throne glorify God, then the inhabitants of the heaven next to them glorified God, until the glorification reached the inhabitants of this lower heaven. Then those who were next to the bearers said, The throne to those who bear the throne: What did your Lord say? So they will inform them of what He said: Then some of the inhabitants of the heavens will inform others until He reaches this lowest heaven, then the jinn snatch away the hearing and slander them to their guardians and throw away anything they brought on his face, it is true. But they become accustomed to it and increase.” Narrated by Muslim.
