Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44576

Uthman bin Umar told us, he said, Yunus told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, he said, Ibn al-Sabbaq told me, he said, Zayd bin Thabit told me, that Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, sent to him the killing of the people of Al-Yamamah, and he found Omar with him. Abu Bakr said, Omar came to me and said: Murder has become a crime against the people of Al-Yamamah, who are Muslim reciters of the Qur’an, and I fear that murder has become a crime among the reciters of the Qur’an in other countries. Then much of the Qur’an will be lost and it will not be understood. And I think that you will order the collection of the Qur’an.
