حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سُمَيْعٍ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ لِأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ ابْسُطْ يَدَكَ حَتَّى أُبَايِعَكَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ أَنْتَ أَمِينُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ فَقَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ مَا كُنْتُ لِأَتَقَدَّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلٍ أَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَؤُمَّنَا فَأَمَّنَا حَتَّى مَاتَ.
Muhammad bin Fudayl told us, Ismail bin Sami’ told us, on the authority of Muslim Al-Batin, on the authority of Abu Al-Bakhtari, he said: Omar said to Abu Ubaidah bin The surgeon, extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you, for I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying, “You are the trustee of this nation.” Abu Ubaidah said, “I would not come forward in front of a man whom the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, commanded to believe in us, so we believed until he died.”
