حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَحَجَّاجٌ، قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، قَالَ حَجَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْطُبَ النَّاسَ خُطْبَةً فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ إِنَّهُ قَدْ اجْتَمَعَ عِنْدَكَ رَعَاعُ النَّاسِ فَأَخِّرْ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ دَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ قَرِيبًا مِنْ الْمِنْبَرِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ وَإِنَّ نَاسًا يَقُولُونَ مَا بَالُ الرَّجْمِ وَإِنَّمَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ الْجَلْدُ وَقَدْ رَجَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَجَمْنَا بَعْدَهُ وَلَوْلَا أَنْ يَقُولُوا أَثْبَتَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ لَأَثْبَتُّهَا كَمَا أُنْزِلَتْ.
Muhammad ibn Ja`far and Hajjaj narrated to us, they said, Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of Saad ibn Ibrahim, he said, I heard Ubayd Allah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah, narrating on the authority of Ibn Abbas, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, who said: Umar ibn al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, performed Hajj and wanted to address the people. A sermon, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf said, “The crowd of people have gathered with you, so postpone that until you come to Medina.” When he came to Medina, I approached him, close to the pulpit, and I heard him say, “And some people say, ‘What is the point of stoning? Rather, in the Book of God is flogging.’” The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, stoned the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and we stoned him after him. And had they not said, “What is not in the Book of God is proven, I would have confirmed it as it is.” It was sent down...
