Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45115

Muhammad ibn Ubaid narrated to us, Shurahbil ibn Mudrak al-Ja’fi narrated to us, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Naji al-Hadrami, on the authority of his father, he said, he told me Ali, may God be pleased with him. I had a status with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, that no other creature had. I used to come to him. Every dawn, I greeted him until he cleared his throat. One night I came and greeted him and said, “Peace be upon you, O Prophet of God,” and he said, “On your messengers, O Abu Hassan until I came out to you. When he came out to me, I said, O Prophet of God, has someone made you angry? He said, “No.” I said, “Why don’t you talk to me?” As he passed, until you spoke to me last night, he said, “I heard movement in the room, so I said, ‘Who is this?’ He said, ‘I am Gabriel.’ I said, ‘Come in.’ He said, ‘No, come out to me.’” When I went out, he said, “There is something in your house that no angel will enter as long as he is in it.” I said, “I do not know of it, O Gabriel.” He said, “Go and see.” So I opened. The house, and I did not find anything in it except a dog puppy that Al-Hasan was playing with. I said, “I found nothing but a puppy.” He said, “There are three of them. No king will enter as long as he remains in it.” Never one of them is a dog, a ritual impurity, or the image of a spirit.
