Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45389

Abdul Razzaq told us, Muammar told us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Ali bin Rabi’ah, he said it once. Abdul Razzaq said and more often. He said He told me who bore witness to Ali when he rode, and when he put his foot in the stirrup, he said, “In the name of God,” and when he sat up, he said, “Praise be to God,” and then he said {Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us, and we have not been able to abide by it. And indeed, to our Lord we will return.} Then he praised him three times and said “Allahu Akbar” three times, then he said Oh God, there is no god but You. I have wronged myself, so forgive me. No one forgives sins except You. Then he laughed and said, “What makes you laugh, oh?” The Commander of the Faithful said: I saw the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, doing the same as I did and saying the same as what I said. Then he laughed and we said: What makes you laugh, O Prophet? God said the servant or he said: I am astonished at the servant when he says: There is no god but You. I have wronged myself, so forgive me. He does not forgive. Sins except You. He knows that no one forgives sins except Him.
