حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا فَلَأَنْ أَقَعَ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَقُولَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَمْ يَقُلْ وَلَكِنَّ الْحَرْبَ خَدْعَةٌ.
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi and Muhammad ibn Ja`far narrated to us, they said, Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of Aoun ibn Abi Juhayfah, on the authority of his father, he said, he said Ali, may God be pleased with him, when I told you a hadith on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, because I would love to fall from the sky to the earth. I have no choice but to say about the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, what he did not say, but war is a deception.
