Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #48192

On the authority of Al-Azraq bin Qais, he said: An imam of ours, nicknamed Abu Rimthah, prayed for us. He said, “I prayed this prayer or a similar prayer with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” May God bless him and grant him peace. He said: Abu Bakr and Omar were standing in the front row on his right, and there was a man who had witnessed the takbeer. The first part of the prayer, so the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed, then he saluted to his right and to his left until we saw the whites of his cheeks, then he turned. It was as if Abu Ramthah, meaning himself, was rushing, so the man who had joined him in the first takbeer of the prayer stood up to intercede and jumped. Omar went to him, so he took him by the shoulder and shook it, then said, “Sit, for the People of the Book were not destroyed except that there was no separation between their prayers.” Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, raised his gaze and said: “May God bless you, O Ibn Al-Khattab.” Narrated by Abu Dawood
