On the authority of Abdullah bin Omar: He divorced his wife while she was menstruating, so Omar mentioned it to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Messenger of God became angry about him. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him, then he said: “Let him take her back, then keep her until she becomes pure, then she menstruates and becomes pure. If it seems to him that he should divorce her, then let him divorce her.” She must be pure before he touches her, and that is the waiting period for which God has commanded that women be divorced.” And in a narration: “Command him to take her back and then divorce her, whether she is pure or pregnant.”
