Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50476

On the authority of Zainab bint Kaab: Al-Furai’ah bint Malik bin Sinan, who is the sister of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, told her that she had come to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. She, peace and blessings be upon him, asked him to return to her family in Bani Khudrah, for her husband had gone out in search of a slave of his whom they had kept behind and killed him. She said: So I asked the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, if I should return to my family, as my husband did not leave me in a house he owned without any maintenance. She said: He said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace: “Yes.” So I left until when I was in the room or in the mosque he called me and said: “Stay in your home until the letter has reached its deadline.” She said: So I observed the waiting period for four months and ten days. Narrated by Malik, Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Al-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Al-Darimi.
