Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #52165

On the authority of Yahya bin Abi Kathir, he said: I asked Abu Salamah bin Abdul Rahman about the first thing that was revealed from the Qur’an? He said: [O Muddathir] I said: They say: [Read in the name of your Lord] Abu Salamah said: I asked Jabir about that. And I told him the same thing you told me. Jabir said to me: I will not tell you anything except what he told us. The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “I lived in Hira’ for a month, and when I had spent my time, I landed and was called, and I looked to my right, but I did not see anything, and I looked To my left, I did not see anything. I looked behind me, but I did not see anything. So I raised my head and saw something, so I went to Khadija. So I said: Cover me, so they covered me and poured cold water on me, so I descended: [O you who cover up! Arise and warn your Lord, so be great. And purify your clothes. And the embarrassment, abandon it] and that was before the obligatory prayer. agreed
