Hadith #44601
حَدَّثَنَا سَكَنُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ دَرَّاجٍ، أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَبَّحَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي طَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ فَرَآهُ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهَا.
Sakan bin Nafi’ al-Bahili narrated to us, he said, Saleh narrated to us, on the authority of al-Zuhri, he said, Rabi’ah bin Darraj narrated to me, that Ali bin Abi Talib, may God have mercy on him, was pleased with him. He glorified God on his behalf two rak’ahs after the afternoon prayer on the road to Mecca, and Omar, may God be pleased with him, saw him and became angry with him, then he said, “By God You have learned that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade it.
