Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44600

Abu Al-Yaman told us, he said, Shuaib told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, he said, Al-Sa’ib ibn Yazid ibn Akhit, Nimr informed us that Huwaytib ibn Abd Al-Uzza told him that Abdullah bin Al-Saadi told him that he came before Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, during his caliphate, and he said Omar has him. Did I not tell you that you do some of the people’s deeds, so if you are given work, you hate it. He said, so I said, “Yes.” Omar, may God be pleased with him, said, so what? Do you want to do that? He said, “I said, ‘I have horses and servants, and I am well, and I want my work to be a charity for the Muslims.’” Then Omar, may God be pleased with him, said, “Do not do it, for I already wanted what you wanted, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to give me the gift, so I said, ‘Give it to him.’” He is poorer to him than I am until he once gave me money and I said give it to him. He is poorer to him than me. He said and the Prophet said to him, may God bless him and grant him peace. May God bless him and grant him peace, take it, finance it, and give it in charity.
