حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ وَلِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ لِدُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوْ امْرَأَةٍ يَنْكِحُهَا فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ‏.‏
Sufyan told us, on the authority of Yahya, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Taymi, on the authority of Alqamah ibn Waqqas, he said: I heard Umar, may God be pleased with him, say I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying, “Actions are based on intention, and every person will have what he intended, so whoever’s migration was to God Almighty, his migration is for what he migrated to, and whoever’s migration is for a worldly gain or a woman to marry, his migration is for what He immigrated to him...
