Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44709

Abu Al-Nadr told us, Abu Aqeel told us, Mujalid bin Saeed told us, Amer told us, on the authority of Masruq bin Al-Ajda’, he said, I met Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, and he said to me, “Who are you?” I said, “Masruq bin Al-Ajda,” and Omar, may God be pleased with him, said, “I heard the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him.” May God bless him and grant him peace. He says, “The most effective is Satan, but you are Masruq ibn Abd al-Rahman.” Amer said, “I saw it in the Diwan written Masruq ibn Abd.” The Most Gracious, so I said, “What is this?” He said, “This is how Omar named me.”
