Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44708

Abu Al-Nadr narrated to us, Al-Masoudi narrated to us, on the authority of Hakim bin Jubayr, on the authority of Musa bin Talha, on the authority of Ibn Al-Hutkiyya, he said: Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, brought food, so he called a man to him, and he said, “I am fasting.” Then he said, “And what type of fast do you fast if you do not hate to eat anything more or I will narrate to you the hadith of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, when the Bedouins brought him the rabbit, but they sent for Ammar. When Ammar came, he said I bear witness that you are the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. On the day the Bedouin brought him the rabbit, he said, “Yes,” and he said, “I I saw blood on it. He said, “Eat it.” He said, “I am fasting.” He said, “And what kind of fasting do you fast?” He said, “The first and last days of the month.” He said, “If you are fasting, then fast the thirteen days.” And the fourteen and fifteen.
