Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45029

Abdullah told us, Sufyan bin Wakee’ told me, Qubaisa told me, on the authority of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, on the authority of Asim, on the authority of Abu Wa’il, he said I said To Abd al-Rahman bin Awf: How did you pledge allegiance to Uthman and leave Ali, may God be pleased with him? He said: What is my fault? I started with Ali and said, “I pledge allegiance to you.” On the Book of God, the Sunnah of His Messenger, and the biography of Abu Bakr and Omar, may God be pleased with them. He said, and he said, “As much as I am able.” He said, “Then I presented it to Uthman, may God be pleased with them.” God bless him and accept it
