Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50664

On the authority of Rafi’ bin Khadij and Sahl bin Abi Hathmah that they narrated that Abdullah bin Sahl and Muhaiysa bin Masoud came to Khaybar and dispersed in Palm trees, so Abdullah bin Sahl was killed, so Abdul Rahman bin Sahl, Huwayisah, and Muhaiysa ibn Masoud came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. Then they discussed the matter of their friend, and Abdul-Rahman began, and he was the youngest of the people, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to him: “He has become very arrogant,” said Yahya. Ibn Saad: meaning, “Layla has the greatest speech.” So they spoke, and the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Deserve your murder.” Or your companion said, “With the oath of fifty of you.” They said: O Messenger of God, there is something we have not seen. He said: Will the Jews disavow you of the faith of fifty of them? They said: O Messenger of God, they are infidels, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, ransomed them from his side. And in a narration: “You swear by fifty “Oath, and you deserve your killer or your companion.” So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, paid 100 she-camels to him from his home.
