Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50692

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: A man came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, while he was in the mosque and called to him: O Messenger of God, I have committed adultery, so the Prophet turned away from him. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him, then he stepped aside to part his face, which was turned away from it, and said: I committed adultery, so the Prophet turned away from it. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him. When he testified four times, the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, called him and said: “Is your father mad?” He said: No, so he said: “Have you done well?” He said: Yes, O Messenger of God. He said: “Take him and stone him.” Ibn Shihab said: Then whoever heard Jabir bin Abdullah informed me. He says: We stoned him in Medina, and when the stones pelted him with stones, he fled until we caught up with him at al-Harrah and stoned him until he died. And in a narration by al-Bukhari: on the authority of Jabir after saying: He said: Yes, so he ordered that he be stoned in the prayer place, but when the stones hit him, he fled and caught up and was stoned until he died. So he said The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, bestowed goodness upon him, and may his blessings and peace be upon him.
