حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَالْحَسَنُ صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ، إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُ فَأَحِبَّهُ.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari used to use this supplication, "O Allah, forgive
my errors, my ignorance and my extravagance in my affairs and what You
know better than I do. O Allah, forgive me what I do both in jest and seriousness,
my errors and what I do intentionally and all that I do."
