Al-Adab Al-Mufrad # 36/856
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ: كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ إِيَاسُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ: أَلاَ أُنْشِدُكَ مِنْ شِعْرِي يَا ابْنَ الْفَارُوقِ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، وَلَكِنْ لاَ تُنْشِدْنِي إِلاَّ حَسَنًا. فَأَنْشَدَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ شَيْئًا كَرِهَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ لَهُ: أَمْسِكْ.
Abdullah bin Muhammad told us, he said: Abu Amer told us, he said: Ayoub bin Thabit told us, on the authority of Khalid, who is Ibn Kaysan, who said: I was With Ibn Omar, then Iyas bin Khaythamah stood up to him and said: Shall I not recite to you some of my poetry, O Ibn Al-Farouq? He said: Yes, but no. You recite to me nothing but good. So he recited it until when he reached something that Ibn Umar disliked, he said to him: Hold on.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، سَمِعَ مُطَرِّفًا قَالَ: صَحِبْتُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ مِنَ الْكُوفَةِ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ، فَقَلَّ مَنْزِلٌ يَنْزِلُهُ إِلاَّ وَهُوَ يُنْشِدُنِي شِعْرًا، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ فِي الْمَعَارِيضِ لَمَنْدُوحَةٌ عَنِ الْكَذِبِ.
Amr bin Marzuq told us, he said: Shu’bah told us, on the authority of Qatada, he heard Mutarrif say: I accompanied Imran bin Husayn from Kufa to Basra. There was rarely a place he went to except when he was reciting poetry to me, and he said: “Indeed, there is a place that abstains from lying.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَغُوثَ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: إِنَّ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ حِكْمَةً.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الزِّبْرِقَانِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي مَدَحْتُ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِمَحَامِدَ، قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُحِبُّ الْحَمْدَ، وَلَمْ يَزِدْهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad # 36/860
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ رَجُلٍ قَيْحًا حَتَّى يَرِيَهُ، خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا.
Omar bin Hafs told us, he said: My father told us, he said: Al-Amash told us, he said: I heard Abu Salih, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: The Messenger of God said: God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: For a man’s stomach to be filled with pus until he sees it is better than for it to be filled with hair.

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُبَارَكٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ شَاعِرًا، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ: أَلاَ أُنْشِدُكَ مَحَامِدَ حَمِدْتُ بِهَا رَبِّي؟ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُحِبُّ الْمَحَامِدَ، وَلَمْ يَزِدْنِي عَلَيْهِ.
Saeed bin Sulaiman told us, he said: Mubarak told us, on the authority of Al-Hasan, on the authority of Al-Aswad bin Saree’, who said: I was a poet, so I came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. So I said: Shall I not recite to you Muhammed, with which I praised my Lord? He said: Indeed, your Lord loves Muhammed, and He has not given me any addition to it.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتِ: اسْتَأْذَنَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي هِجَاءِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: فَكَيْفَ بِنِسْبَتِي؟ فَقَالَ: لَأَسُلَّنَّكَ مِنْهُمْ كَمَا تُسَلُّ الشَّعْرَةُ مِنَ الْعَجِينِ.
Muhammad bin Salam told us, he said: Abdah told us, he said: Hisham bin Urwa told us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with him. On her authority, she said: Hassan bin Thabit asked the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, permission to attack the polytheists, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: So how? As for me? He said: I will separate you from them as a hair is released from dough.

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad # 36/863
وَعَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: ذَهَبْتُ أَسُبُّ حَسَّانَ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَتْ: لاَ تَسُبَّهُ، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يُنَافِحُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم.
On the authority of Hisham, on the authority of his father, he said: I went to curse Hassan in the presence of Aisha, and she said: Do not curse him, for he was defending the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. And peace be upon him...

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ زِيَادٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: مِنَ الشِّعْرِ حِكْمَةٌ.
Abu Asim told us, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Ziyad, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abu Bakr, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, on the authority of Ubayy ibn Kaab, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said: From poetry is wisdom.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَنْعُمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: الشِّعْرُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْكَلاَمِ، حَسَنُهُ كَحَسَنِ الْكَلامِ، وَقَبِيحُهُ كَقَبِيحِ الْكَلامِ.
Muhammad bin Salam told us, he said: Ismail bin Ayyash told us, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin Anam, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Rafi’, on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, who said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Poetry is like speech, its goodness is like good speech, and its badness is like speech. حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ تَلِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَغَيْرُهُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَقُولُ: الشِّعْرُ مِنْهُ حَسَنٌ وَمِنْهُ قَبِيحٌ، خُذْ بِالْحَسَنِ وَدَعِ الْقَبِيحَ، وَلَقَدْ رَوَيْتُ مِنْ شِعْرِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَشْعَارًا، مِنْهَا الْقَصِيدَةُ فِيهَا أَرْبَعُونَ بَيْتًا، وَدُونَ ذَلِكَ.
Saeed bin Talid told us, he said: Ibn Wahb told us, he said: Jabir bin Ismail and others told me, on the authority of Aqeel, on the authority of Ibn Shihab, On the authority of Urwa, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, that she used to say: Some of poetry is good and some is bad. Take the good and leave the bad. I have narrated some poems from the poetry of Ka’b ibn Malik, including the poem in which there are forty lines, and less than that.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا: أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَمَثَّلُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ؟ فَقَالَتْ: كَانَ يَتَمَثَّلُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ شِعْرِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَوَاحَةَ: وَيَأْتِيكَ بِالأَخْبَارِ مَنْ لَمْ تُزَوِّدِ.
Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, saying: Sharik narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh, on the authority of his father, who said: I said to Aisha, may God be pleased with her: Was the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imitating some of the poetry? She said: He was imitating some of the poetry of Abdullah bin Rawaha: And he brings you news from whom you did not provide.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُبَارَكٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ، أَنَّ الأَسْوَدَ بْنَ سَرِيعٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ: كُنْتُ شَاعِرًا فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، امْتَدَحْتُ رَبِّي، فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُحِبُّ الْحَمْدَ، وَمَا اسْتَزَادَنِي عَلَى ذَلِكَ.
Musa told us, he said: Mubarak told us, he said: Al-Hasan told us, that Al-Aswad ibn Saree’ told him, he said: I was a poet, so I said: O Messenger God, I praised my Lord, and He said: Indeed, your Lord loves praise, and He did not give me anything more than that.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الشَّرِيدِ، عَنِ الشَّرِيدِ قَالَ: اسْتَنْشَدَنِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم شِعْرَ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ، وَأَنْشَدْتُهُ، فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ: هِيهِ، هِيهِ حَتَّى أَنْشَدْتُهُ مِئَةَ قَافِيَةٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنْ كَادَ لَيُسْلِمُ.
Abu Nu'aym told us, he said: Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman bin Ya'la told us, he said: I heard Amr bin Al-Sharid, on the authority of Al-Sharid, he said: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, asked me to recite the poetry of Umayyah ibn Abi al-Salt, and I recited it. Then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, began to say: Heh, heh. Until I recited a hundred rhymes to him, and he said: He was about to become a Muslim.

حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: لأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا.
Ubayd Allah ibn Musa told us, he said: Hanzalah told us, on the authority of Salim, on the authority of Ibn Umar, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, who said: To fill the stomach of one of you It is better for him to have pus than to be filled with hair.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يَزِيدَ النَّحْوِيِّ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: {وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لاَ يَفْعَلُونَ}، فَنَسَخَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَاسْتَثْنَى فَقَالَ: {إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {يَنْقَلِبُونَ}.
Ishaq told us, he said: Ali bin Al-Hussein told us, he said: My father told me, on the authority of Yazid the grammarian, on the authority of Ikrimah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas: {And the poets are followed by the deviants} until His saying: {And they say what they do not do}, so he abrogated from that and made an exception. He said: {Except those who believe} until His saying: {They turn}.

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad # 36/872
حَدَّثَنَا عَارِمٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، أَوْ أَعْرَابِيًّا، أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَتَكَلَّمَ بِكَلاَمٍ بَيِّنٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنَّ مِنَ الْبَيَانِ سِحْرًا، وَإِنَّ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ حِكْمَةً.
'Arim told us, he said: Abu Awanah told us, on the authority of Simmak, on the authority of Ikrimah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, that a man, or a Bedouin, came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. Then he spoke clear words, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Indeed, part of the statement is magic, and part of poetry is wisdom.

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَعْنٌ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ سَلاَّمٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ دَفَعَ وَلَدَهُ إِلَى الشَّعْبِيِّ يُؤَدِّبُهُمْ، فَقَالَ: عَلِّمْهُمُ الشِّعْرَ يَمْجُدُوا وَيُنْجِدُوا، وَأَطْعِمْهُمُ اللَّحْمَ تَشْتَدُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ، وَجُزَّ شُعُورَهُمْ تَشْتَدُّ رِقَابُهُمْ، وَجَالِسْ بِهِمْ عِلْيَةَ الرِّجَالِ يُنَاقِضُوهُمُ الْكَلامَ.
Ibrahim bin Al-Mundhir narrated to us, saying: Ma’an narrated to me, saying: Omar bin Salam narrated to me, that Abd al-Malik bin Marwan pushed his son to Al-Sha`bi disciplines them, and he said: Teach them poetry so that they will be glorified and prosperous, feed them meat and their hearts will be hardened, and trim their hair. Their necks are stiffened, and men sit on top of them and argue with them in words.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: إِنَّ أَعْظَمَ النَّاسِ جُرْمًا إِنْسَانٌ شَاعِرٌ يَهْجُو الْقَبِيلَةَ مِنْ أَسْرِهَا، وَرَجُلٌ انْتَفَى مِنْ أَبِيهِ.
Qutaibah narrated to us, he said: Jarir narrated to us, on the authority of Al-A’mash, on the authority of Amr ibn Murrah, on the authority of Yusuf ibn Mahak, on the authority of Ubaid ibn Umair, on the authority of Aisha May God be pleased with her, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, who said: The greatest crime among people is a poet who satirizes the tribe against its captivity, and a man He was estranged from his father...
