Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #40651

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Whoever keeps a dog, a qirat will be reduced every day from his work, except for a plowing or livestock dog” ((Agreed upon)). In a narration by Muslim: “Whoever owns a dog that is neither a hunting dog nor livestock nor land, two Qirats will be deducted from his reward every day.”
